District Clerk and Secretary to the Superintendent Wendy Odit will be bidding the Lyons Central School District farewell in early 2022.
For 35 years, Ms. Odit has worked in the district. Her last day will be January 28.
“It does not feel like it’s been 35 years,” said Ms. Odit. “Everybody’s been wonderful. I’ve loved the staff, especially here in the district office. I’ve made lifelong friends because of this career.”
District Superintendent Dr. Matt Barr said Ms. Odit’s sunny personality and cheerful nature will be greatly missed in the district office.
“Wendy has been a huge part of the district for the last 35 years,” Dr. Barr said. “She has always been kind and helpful, and we’re so thankful for her many years of dedication and hard work. We will miss her, and we wish her all the best in the next chapter.”
Ms. Odit is a graduate of the Lyons High School Class of 1985. She began her career as a substitute secretary in the guidance office, where she soon after took on a full-time position. She remained in that office for 15 years before coming to work in the district office with the superintendent.
John Morrissey, a long-time School Counselor at the Lyons Middle/High School, said Ms. Odit’s dedication to the district is unparalleled, and working with her was a joy.
“For 35 years, Wendy Porter Odit has served the Lyons Central School District as an exceptional person and professional,” Mr. Morrissey said. “Every person associated with the District, students, parents, and staff has benefitted from her work. She has always demonstrated exceptional knowledge, skills and commitment both to the Lyons School District and the larger Lyons community. She leaves a legacy of service and devotion to the District that is unmatched. We are grateful for Wendy’s presence in our lives, and offer our heartfelt thanks for a job well done.”
Ms. Odit has big plans on the calendar for next year, including a trip to Georgia with her sister-in-law in February, and a trip with her two twin sisters to Hawaii over the summer.
“I am going to do a little traveling, and I’m excited about that,” Ms. Odit said. She also is excited to have more time to read, crochet and go on walks with her dog.
As a native and resident of Lyons, Ms. Odit is looking forward to staying involved in the community. She plans to volunteer with the children at the elementary school, and to spend more time with her nieces and nephews who live nearby.
“I love this small town. It takes a village to raise a child, and I think you get that complete experience in Lyons,” Ms. Odit said. “I had a great 35 years here, and I look forward to remaining in the community.”
