MAY 5, 2022 — Eleven Lyons Elementary School students participated in the 2022 Inventive Minds Competition held at Red Creek CSD’s Cuyler Elementary on March 25.

To prepare for the competition, the third and fourth graders worked for eight weeks in their Inventive Minds meetings and at home on solving an everyday problem. “They first come up with a problem they want to solve, and then create a solution for it,” Pre-K to 6th grade STEAM teacher and Inventive Minds advisor Brian Askin said. “They've gone through every step of the engineering and design process.”

To prepare for the March 25 competition, Lyons students competed in-house at Lyons Elementary School on March 16, showcasing their solutions to Lyons students and staff to determine who would make it to the finals later in the month. Spirits were high as students proudly showed off their work and reflected on their journey through Inventive Minds.

“Even if I don’t win, I’m gonna pat myself on the back, say that I’m very proud of myself for trying the best, and not quitting,” remarked third grader Aniya Felix, inventor of the “Fidget Doll.”

Five Lyons Elementary students placed among the top competitors during the March 25 competition. They are:
