JANUARY 11, 2023 — The Lyons Central School District is excited to welcome Mrs. Jennifer Harris to the District as one of several new Instructional Coaches.
Mrs. Harris’ role will allow her to connect with teachers in the District to help determine ways to better serve students in all grade levels.
“The way I see myself is as an instructional collaborator,” Mrs. Harris said. “I think of myself as a partner for education — someone who can look at student learning outcomes to determine best learning practices.”
Mrs. Harris comes to the District from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she spent the last 9 years as the Director of Elementary Education and Coordinator of Student Supervision. Prior to Hobart and William Smith, she worked at Geneva City Schools as a Special Education, General Education and Academic Intervention Specialist.
When Mrs. Harris learned of the opportunity to pivot in her career and come work at Lyons, she spent a lot of time thinking about what the shift would mean. Ultimately, she decided returning to the K-12 realm would present new and exciting challenges, and she’s thrilled to be starting a new chapter in her career at Lyons.
“I felt like this was a chance for me to take on a new leadership role, but also a chance to be able to do what I love with students and with teachers who are eager to be agents of change,” she said. “And that is so exciting to me.”
Mrs. Harris lives in Geneva with her husband, and has two adult sons. She earned her Associate’s Degree at SUNY Alfred, her Bachelor’s Degree at SUNY Brockport and graduated with her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Nazareth College.
She sees the recent shifts in Lyons’ leadership and academic focus as an exciting shift for the District.
“I feel like Lyons is having a rebirth — the administration is eager and energetic to improve outcomes for all our students,” Mrs. Harris said. “I feel like it’s important work that needs to be done here, and I know I have services to offer that will actually help Lyons grow.”
