JUNE 12, 2023 — On Tuesday, May 16th, Lyons MS/HS art students and FACS students joined forces and successfully completed their first Empty Bowls fundraising event for the Lyons community.

The event took place during Family Engagement Night. Empty Bowls is a global movement led by artists and craftspeople to raise money for food-related charities in their communities. Empty Bowls aims to get students "thinking globally and acting locally."

Here at Lyons, art students created hand-crafted pottery bowls which were sold alongside the Family and Consumer Sciences crockpot meals. Together, the students fundraised $498 to be donated to the Lyons Food Pantry. The students worked hard, not only creating all of the bowls and crockpot meals, but also promoting and running the entire event.

The Empty Bowls event could not have happened without the teamwork and dedication of our students here at Lyons. Thank you to each and every student, parent, grandparent, and community member who supported this event and made it a huge success.
