Our third graders at Lyons Elementary had an exciting visit from Midland Asphalt. It was the perfect opportunity to introduce students to careers in construction. The Midland team spoke about their work and safety gear (PPE) and shared some Halloween safety tips. Each student received their Midland safety vest and saw a real Distributor Truck up close!
Mr. Beveridge's 11th-grade class explored the importance of specific vocabulary words in relation to the short story they read and paraphrased. These vocabulary words served as a vital vehicle for facilitating comprehension and application, helping students connect more deeply with the text.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month coming to a close this week, our wonderful Kindergarteners organized a special “Hispanic Heritage Month Parade” to celebrate and honor the diverse cultures and traditions of Hispanic heritage.
Mrs. Fries' 5th grade class has kicked off their second science unit on Earth's Systems/Spheres! They dove right in, learning about each sphere and its importance. Students created amazing posters highlighting key facts about each sphere, complete with creative representations!
The 6th-grade students wrapped up their English Language Arts unit on "The Triumphs and Challenges of Childhood" with an enriching day of celebrating childhood experiences at Camp Foundations and Fruit Valley Orchard. The day was filled with engaging activities, including apple picking, a fascinating bubble science show, a challenging maze, educational sessions about diverse animals, and enjoyable camp games. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Ms. Ouderkirk's middle school class is currently diving into "The Medicine Bag" by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve, a story about the Lakota tribe of Indigenous people. In honor of Indigenous People's Day, they are analyzing this meaningful passage while honing their annotation skills.
