On Wednesday, February 7th, Lyons Elementary celebrated World Read Aloud Day in partnership with students from the Lyons High School Leadership and Community Class. Leadership students were able to share the gift of reading in over ten classrooms and even outside on the playground! World Read Aloud Day was founded in 2010 by LitWorld.org. According to LitWorld.org the purpose of World Read Aloud Day is to “create community and amplify new stories, and to advocate for literacy as a foundational human right.” The joy of reading was seen in many classrooms on Wednesday and even included a special group that wanted to read back to the high school students.
A special thank you to Mrs. Kelly Wetmore, Mrs. Molly Thurston, Ms. Erica Gansz, Principal Taylor, Principal Schott, and the Transportation Department for collaborating to make this a success!
Save the date: on April 5th at the Lyons Community Center, the RRH Mobile Mammography Center will be visiting from 9am-4pm. No insurance, no appointment, no problem! Women 35 and older.
Congratulations to our recent LES Cub Calls and Proud Paws Calls! Here is what each recipient's teachers had to say in their nomination:
“Royell has been working so hard in class. She tries her best daily and always participates. Royell is so kind to her friends and classmates, and is always willing to help. She loves having a class job and contributing to class, whether helping her teacher, cleaning up the classroom, assisting friends with work, or handing out materials. Royell always has a great attitude and is ready to learn!”
“Eleanor is always a model student for her peers. She is respectful to peers and adults as well as always willing to try new things and push through when things get hard.”
“Hunter is a very hard worker who always puts his best effort into his work. He takes his time completing his work and is always volunteering and participating. Keep up the super work Hunter!”
“Keegan has shown that through hard work he can accomplish more than he ever thought. He strives to do the best he can on all assignments and when stuck he will ask for help and he is a great listener while you’re helping. He knows how to use kind words and to be a friend to all in the class, especially when someone is in need of a friend he is always there for them regardless of who it is. This is a great show of positivity and growth in his character. Keegan takes such pride in all that he does in class. Keegan definitely shows that passion for positivity that we stress in every morning during announcements.”
“Cecelia is a very positive and happy girl. She is constantly showing what it means to be an 'Orange Frog' in our classroom. She strives to do her best in everything, taking her time and perfecting every assignment. Cece loves to tell stories that make her friends or me laugh or brings us joy. She also always makes sure, if she brings something home, she has enough for her older siblings. Cecelia has the kindest heart.”
“Anthony listens to all instructions the first time. He sets a great example for all students in the class. Anthony constantly shows respect to all of his classmates and teachers, going out of his way to complement them or help them when he notices they might be struggling. I can always count on Anthony to keep me on track and remind me of anything I may have forgotten. Anthony is an essential member of our classroom family.”
And finally, superstar Aelita received a Principal’s Office nomination for "demonstrating ROAR expectations!" Way to go, Aelita!
