Mrs. Clancy

Lyons Central School District proudly celebrates Mrs. Clancy for being selected to participate in the New York State Master Teacher Program, joining a distinguished group of public school K-12 Science, Technology/Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) educators dedicated to excellence. Mrs. Clancy teaches Regents Biology, Gemini Biology (FLCC), and Forensic Science at Lyons High School. She is the third Lyons teacher to earn this honor, following Don Winslow and Eric Benderski.

Mrs. Clancy began the rigorous application process over a year ago, submitting transcripts, completing proficiency tests, and obtaining letters of recommendation from colleagues. Encouraged by her colleague Don Winslow, she embraced the challenge. “The process made me reflect on what I do as an educator and why. I like challenging myself in ways that allow me to bring new opportunities to my students,” she shared.

The final round of the selection process took place at SUNY Geneseo, where she participated in panel interviews and collaborative sessions and delivered an individual presentation on metagenomics. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “It was inspiring to be among educators excited about their fields. "

The four-year Master Teacher term includes professional development, collaboration, and mentorship. This January, at a recent NYSMTP event, Mrs. Clancy participated in sessions on nutrition’s effects on the brain, NGSS assessments, and statewide educational updates.

“This program builds a community of educators passionate about teaching and learning,” she explained. “It hones your skills and supports others.”

"Mrs. Clancy's acceptance into the New York State Master Teacher Program reflects her dedication to excellence and growth as an educator," said Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Rhonda Underhill. "We are proud of her achievement and excited for the positive impact it will have on our school community."

Mrs. Clancy remains committed to creating opportunities for her students by attending conferences and embracing new challenges. Lyons Central School District congratulates her on this achievement and looks forward to the impact of her work as a Master Teacher.
